step mom

Is it proper etiquette for the step mom to go with daughter and mother to help pick out dress? My other daughter got married about two years ago and the step mom did all the decorating and such. Even with a wedding planner involved. She wasalso planning to light the mother's candle with myself but at last minute left me standing deciding against it. I felt very hurt, more like an invited quest (that helped pay my part), but said nothing. She has two girls of her own. I would feel uncomfortable stepping in her place at such a time but I am unsure if that I may be out of line here. In all honesty I feel her involvement is a bit too much, however she knows I will not say anything to her.

Please give me information for which event goes first for each of the following if we only have 4 hours for the hall. We start wedding outside at 5:00 and last 30 minutes. We would like to have dinner at about 6:30 and can not figure out what should come next.

The bride's family has limited the number of guests at the wedding to 150 but we have many more friends we would like to include on a shower. Is it not appropriate to invite someone to a wedding shower that you do not intend to send a wedding invitation to?

Beach Wedding Theme

If you cant make it to the ocean for your wedding, consultant suggests ways to have a beach wedding even if youre far away. Some of the ideas could be adapted for a real beach wedding.
Brides Attire
Wearing simple wedding dresses or casual wedding dresses is suitable. If youre not too worried about being conventional, go with a long flowing white beach wedding gown and wide brimmed sun hat or large tropical flower in your hair.
Groom and His Attendants Attire
Again, casual is probably better. Wear a nice white sports jacket and white or beige pants. Add some fun to it by donning a colorful beach type tie.
Bridesmaids
Either long or mid-calf bridesmaid gowns or dresses with chiffon scarves to tie back long hair or wide brimmed sun hats. The dresses could be in a colorful pattern like Elegant Bridesmaid Gown or in colors to match your color scheme.
Invitations
Use the beach wedding motif. a nice picture of a tropical beach, for instance. (Create your own with a good scanner and printer.)
Decorations:
Buy plenty of beach balls in a variety of colors and hang them from the ceiling. Rent fake palm trees. Cover wedding guests tables with a deep blue table cloth, sprinkled with a little sand in the center and sea shells.
Favours:
Nice large sea shells, with holes drilled in the top of each, and ribbons looped through the hole for hanging. Or cardboard treat boxes filled with chocolate pieces in the shape of beach stuff like sea shells and wrapped in a beach wrapping paper.
Centerpieces:
Large, pillar candles with sea shells embedded in the wax and set in a low, flat dish filled with sand. (Both are easy to find in hobby and gift stores in beach towns like Cape May.)
Pew markers:
Use small leis as pew markers, for a tropical beach feel.

Designer Wedding Cakes

Designer wedding cakes are very popular at weddings and they do not have to be that hard to create or that expensive if you know the secrets.
Fortunately throughout the years I have had the opportunity to see plenty of pictures of cakes that would make any bride smile. I would love to share the tips I have learned about unusual wedding cakes with you!
One of the first tips I like to share about successful cakes, regardless of whether were talking about bridal shower cakes or a birthday cake design is that you must first start with a good recipe.
If the cake recipe isnt any good, it wont matter how beautiful the design is. Homemade cake recipes are always the best, but there are also some very good package mixes available too.
If you are planning to make the cake yourself, be sure to test it first. If you are considering purchasing it from a bakery, ask for a taste test. Most bakeries are happy to oblige!
When selecting designs, be sure to look at enough cake pictures to get a good idea of how you want your cake to look. I often find inspiration for baby shower cake designs and designer wedding cakes in some of my favorite cake design books.
Even square wedding cake pictures look unique when you combine the right touch of embellishments and a gorgeous cake topper. Square cakes have actually become quite popular.
Even if you are planning to elope or have a small ceremony, you can still have a beautiful wedding cake.
A few years ago, two of my closest friends, surprised everyone when they eloped to Las Vegas. It was quite romantic and it certainly surprised everyone.
The bride wore a gorgeous wedding dress in the wedding chapel they chose and she confided later that she spent quite a bit of time looking at Las Vegas wedding cakes before choosing one.
She shared with me pictures of the cake she eventually chose and I honestly couldnt see any difference between it and many designer wedding cakes.
Coming up with ideas for unique designer wedding cakes isnt really any harder than coming up with ideas for unique birthday cakes.
You just need to think out of the box a little. Think about some of the birthday cakes delivered you have seen. What set them apart? The most unique birthday cake delivery I have ever seen combined fun and whimsy.
Designer wedding cakes can be both fun and elegant with a little imagination.

Be careful not to caught up in the drama.
Purple Bridesmaid dresses:
Purple is for the traditional couple. They will most likely be married in a church with a traditional ceremony filled with nostalgia. Purple is a very romantic and feminine color. This couple considers their love tobe precious and one that will withstand the test of time. Their love is pure and none judgmental. They view each other as unique and extremely special. Chivalry is not dead.
Green Bridesmaid dresses:
Green is for the stable and hopeful couple eager to start a family. Green is great for an outdoor wedding. Outdoor weddings denote new beginnings and growth. A future filled with balance and stability. A green wedding reveals a modern sensibility and new beginnings.
Brown Bridesmaid dresses:
This wedding will have a warm, honest and comforting feeling. Not unlike the bride and grooms love. This genuine couple depends on each other for a stable and grounded future. One with wholesome and earthly qualities.
Black Bridesmaid dresses:
Black is for the resilient and creative couple. The young couple who embraces their unknown and mysterious future. The sense of potential and possibility is intoxicating for this couple. Black dresses convey elegance and sophistication, especially at a wedding. The color has conflicting connotations on this occasion, which is sexy and unconventional.
Blue Bridesmaid dresses:
Blue represents loyalty, honesty and faithfulness. Qualities a marriage can not go without. This color is for the calm and conservative couple. Blue conveys importance and confidence. A professional couple with religious beliefs.

I'm suppose to be the "best man", and whether I choose to wear a female tux, or a dress, him and his fiance want the dresses to be pink, and the men to have a pink tux. So, my questions are, where can I find a pink female tux or dress appropriate for their wedding? And should I wear a female tux, or a dress? Thanks!

Monetary Wedding Gifts

My boyfriend has been invited to his co-workers' wedding and I am his guest. The couple has requested contributions to their wishing well or gift cards. What would be the appropriate amount. My boyfriend and I don't seem to agree. I believe for a co-worker that the max should be $50. He is thinking more like $200! I think that's entirely too much. Their annual income is between $40,000-$50,000.  Their family members probably won't even give that much. I need advice from an expert to back my point of view. HELP!

I actually have 2 questions.
Our neighbors daughter invited my husband and I to her wedding which we did not attend. It has been a little over a month since the wedding. My first question is if you do not attend a wedding should you still send a gift? If the answer is yes, at what point is it too late to send a monetary gift to the bride and groom?
